This weekend, we had the good fortune of accompanying some friends to North Carolina to stay at their family's mountain home. The weekend was eventful on many accounts: first of all, our vehicle was powered entirely by vegetable oil. We are considering changing my husband's truck over to a veggie oil system, so it was fun to experience. Plus, it was awesome to drive by all those high gas station prices!
Of course, the highlight of my weekend was...apple picking! I think my husband was skeptical at first, but we all ended up having an amazing time! It looked like rain most of the day, but it held off for us and served us well, as we pretty much had the whole orchard to ourselves. It was a huge piece of land on the side of a mountain with the most amazing view of a valley tucked between more mountains. We explored and picked the day away! They told us we could taste the apples before we committed to them as part of our loot. With such liberties granted, my adorable husband took full advantage:
I think he ended up eating as many as we brought home. That night, we baked an apple pie, of course. It was so delicious! Tree to pie in less than 12 hours, how perfect! Part of mine are destined for more pie/cobbler, and part of mine will become jelly. I'll keep you updated.
